GR MITCHELL’S PAINT DONATION HELPS LOCAL SCHOOLS BRIGHTEN UP THE HALLWAYS

Multicolored carpets, bright crayon boxes and eye-catching decorated hallways all are vivid details of how bright and brilliant schools are meant to be. We’re here to add to the beauty, with a new coat of paint to refresh some learning environments around our community. We’ve teamed up with True Value for their Painting a Brighter Future 2022 program. This is no small program. Over 2,300 schools and youth-development focused organizations across the country have been awarded paint since the program’s inception in 2009, covering over 25 million square feet of learning space.

GR Mitchell put in an application for Swift Middle School and George A Smith Middle School both located in Solanco. Shortly after, we received a notification that both schools were approved for the grant. The schools were each invited to select 20 gallons of paint plus supplies worth over $1,200. Pictured above, Mark Zuber, a special educations teacher for the middle schools is planning to, with the grant, paint a mural in their hallways to encourage the cultivation of art and music. The schools also have planned to revitalize shared spaces such as the weight room or computer labs. They’re aiming for something abstract, a compelling image to further extend the inventive interest of the students.

As seen in the picture above our store team worked in picking paint for the project. Manager, Angela Paul, was excited when she heard about our involvement in the program this year. Here at GR Mitchell, we focus on community, when asked about the impact this contribution had on her she said “I’m excited about our role in helping magnify students’ creativity, I also was able to help choose some colors and cannot wait to see the amazing finished mural”. Angie, it is safe to say that both of things will come to fruition soon.

The paint provided will also shield the students from toxins and allergens. True Value’s EasyCare Ultra-Premium Acrylic Latex paint has earned the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Mark via an independent certification program established in the United States, which helps consumers identify products more suitable for people with asthma and allergies. They perform physical and chemical testing on products to ensure they minimize irritants and pollutants in the air. After assuring that the learners would be provided with the safest paint possible, we caught up with Paul Gladfelter, Principal of both Solanco Middle Schools. When asked about the impact the grant would have on the schools he said “This is the beginning of a process to “make-over” spaces in our buildings, along with providing learners with a creative outlet that will further connect them to school.”

In our most recent years, GR Mitchell had Martin Meylin Middle and The SECA Center enjoy what the True Value Foundation’s Painting a Brighter Future program brings to the table. The donation will not only save these organizations money, but more importantly will create an environment that fosters learning and inspires creativity. Come in store for a wide variety in colors of True Value’s EasyCare Ultra-Premium Acrylic Latex paint.
